Color Fill and blank/white space

Ok, here is what I am doing: Creating a 4x6 post card. Using the line tool to draw a straight line horizontally across the top 3rd of the card. I then click edit points and put one in the middle of the line. drag it up and then assign a curved segment to both sides (on either side of the edit point that I previously dragged up

How do I get the white space above the curve to color fill

Thanks

In order for the object to fill it has to be closed.

I tried using the line tool to "line in" the 3 remaining sides, and grouping
them (wouldn't group) to do the color fill, any suggestions on closing the
space?

Sorry, they would group, but a space beneath the curve filled in (to where
the original line was).

You can't just make three lines and group them together, you have to use the
Polygon Custom AutoShape to make a jointed line.

I guess I am better off getting either Quark or In-design....?

What gave you that impression?
If I understand the method you are using correctly (grouping three lines
together), you will be no better off with Quark or InDesign than you are at
the moment.
If the method you describe in the first post is correct-er, then I just
tried it in Publisher 2003 and it worked fine.
