One way to do this is to use a style for all your locked cells. To do this:
1) Highlight the cells you want to be locked.
2) Go to Format > Style
3) Enter a style name, like "Locked". Make sure you don't leave the style name as "Normal", or it will change all the cells in the worksheet.
4) Click the Modify button
5) Set the protection to locked, the pattern to blue, and whatever else you want to change. Then hit ok a couple of times.
What's cool about using the style is that if you want to change all the cells of a particular type later on, you just go to the style menu and change it there, and all your cells will update. So it can be a big time saver for formatting changes later on.
