Coloring Word body text in Win 98 (simple?)

A friend has MS Word running under Windows 98. (I don't
know if his Word version is 97 or 2000.) He claims
"computer illiteracy" in not knowing how to change the
color of text.

I used to have MS Word X on my Mac, but no longer...How can
I tell him precisely how to change selections from black to
red? (Need this in Menu > Command format.)

Simple, and thanks in advance!

OK I'll give it a go.

Alt-E(Edit)this is redundant
Ctrl-A(Select All)
Alt-O,F(Format),(Font)
Alt-C(color)
use the Arrow keys to select the color(3 down arrows should get you "red")
And then OK
