Colour matching

Is there a problem with colour matching in Office 2003 (OS Windows XP)? In
other words, if one works on a document and sees it as certain colours on the
monitor, when you come to print out the document, the colours are different
to those on the monitor.

What's on the monitor and what is on the paper is only an approximation.
Monitor colors will vary a lot depending on the settings and no two
printers models are going to be exactly the same. Adjusting the color on
the monitor is a lot easier to accomplish than the printer.

Thank you Bob I. My query arises because I have been using Windows 98 and
Office 2000 for a long time now with WYSIWYG good enough to use it for desk
top publishing.I've upgraded to XP and SBE2003 and I am using the same
printer - butthere doesnt seem to be any reason for the print out that I am
getting to be so different from the displayed image. I have a new TFT set at
32bit and the device is working correctly.

Are you getting green on the paper when you see red on the screen? Break
out the instruction book for the flat panel and have at it. Also you
want to make sure one of the ink tanks didn't run out in the printer.

Hi Bob - thank you for your suggestions. I had none of the problems that you
referred to with the panel and also my ink cartridges were perfect. I decided
to contact HP about this problem once again. I persevered for 2 weeks & have
been told today by HP that this is a known bug in Office 2003 and that there
will be a fix from Microsoft. It was made abundantly clear to me that this
was not HP's problem. To the best of my knowledge - and presumably this must
be correct as I sent a copy of self test and diagnostics from my HP5510 to HP
& they didnt tell me otherwise, the printer driver are up to date.After
further reasearch, I have also found references on the Computeractive website
raised by owners of an Epson and a Canon printer to the problem of 'muddy'
and washed out colours printing from Office 2003 Word and Publisher which do
not match the colours displayed on the monitor.The owner of the Epson printer
was also told by Epson customer service that this was a MS problem and that
it applied to all printers. So I'll just have to sit it out and go back to
using Office 2000 and my old printer which worked perfectly.
Sorry I have wasted your time, but am very grateful for your suggestions.

Thanks for posting back, I have not had this issue with Office 2003 and
color lasers or the 2 HP injets we use. Information gained is not time
wasted, thanks again.

I am having same color matching problem in spite of new cartridge, etc.
Does anyone know if Microsof t has made a fix yet? iF so, how to I get it?

I have a different answer to this. I called HP support and they had me take
out the color cartridge. Then wring out a clean white cloth so it barely
damp and hold it to the end of the cartridge where the ink comes out and see
what colors "flowed" . I had only blue and red, no yello on my wet cloth.
The tech person at HP told me to look at the expiration date on teh
cartridge. Turns out it expired in 2004-- 2 years ago. He says the ink
dried up. It makes sense. I never knew these had shelf lifes and if I had
known that I would have let the kids color print a lot more often. I paid
$45 and never used it. It was right out of the box this morning. Elaine
