Colour of border around graphics keeps "dropping off"

I have created a user manual using Word 2003 SP3. The manual contains a lot
of screenshots, and to make them stand out I used a coloured border around
the graphics, the colour is a house-defined colour.

I insert the graphics using Insert > Picture > From file... > Insert > Link
to File.

To add the border I right-click the graphic, go to Borders and Shading...,
in the Borders tab click the Color: drop-down list and select More Line
Colors... On the Custom tab I insert the RGB values and click OK, then select
the line width and style, click Box and then click OK.

For some reason, my nice shade of blue SOMETIMES changes back to R,G,B
128,0,128 when I perform various actions, including updating the graphic,
closing and re-opening the document, updating fields in the document (lots of
cross-refs) or generating a ToC, and assorted other things but I might not
notice exactly when the lines change if I happen to be elsewhere in the
document.

Is there anything I can to do either:

a) stop my custom colour from dropping off, or
b) reapply the custom colour to all graphics without having to do as
described to each graphic.

Currently I have to work through the document and reapply the colour which
is rather tedious, even when using Ctrl-Y to repeat the line colour, and I've
had to do this loads of times and I'm getting a bit bored with it.

I have searched the forum and can't find anyone else with a similar problem.

(BTW, I had a similar problem with border colours around tables changing
back to default colours, but it wasn't the blue and I have to confess that
the colour it changed to was so similar to the one it was supposed to be, I
just didn't bother changing it as I didn't notice until it was too late and
I'd already delivered the doc.)

Any suggestions, anyone?

I'm now supposed to create a template for this type of document for other
people to use and I need to include the borders for graphics.

So how do I get the graphics borders to stay the colours I set them up as?

This is very frustrating!
