Column balancing (2007)

Heather Mills

I need to generate a document containing lots of 2- and 3-column
sections. I have created two styles to control paghe breaks and column
breaks.

The Column1Hdr style has Page Break Before set on.

The Column2Hdr style has all the same formatting but with Page Break
Before set off.

I am not aware of any way to include a section break in a style, so I
am forcing the column breaks by setting Keep on for all but the last
line in each column.

My problem is that the titles do not line up. I have checked and
rechecked. All of the settings for each style are the same except for
the page break.

Curiously, the problem is only on the first page of each section. On
subsequent pages, thing aling perfectly.

Help?

If you are referring to headings (rather than headers), note that Spacing
Before is suppressed after "soft" page breaks and can be suppressed (by
enabling the appropriate Compatibility Option) after hard page and column
breaks but not after section breaks or on the first page of a document. This
may be relevant to your issue.

Yep, that did it. Thank you.
