Column Of Numbers To A Text Format Problem

B

Bob

Hello,

Using Excel 2007 and W7.

I have a column of numbers, many of which are
0
00
000
etc.

I wish to utilize them as text in many cases, and want all the zeros to
stay.

If I define a new Column, beforehand, as text, and enter them
individually into this new column, no problem.
They are left justified, and are obviously defined as text.
Works as it should.

But if I have an already existing column of these zeros from a
downloaded spreadsheet(seems to be formatted as Special) and I try to
change this existing column to a text format, it won't do it. Or, if I
try to change them individually to text, it won't do it either.

A copy and paste into a new column I created, defined as text before the
paste, won't work either. It changes, e.g., 0000 to a single 0, though.

Any idea what might be going on ?

Thanks,
B.

Hi Bob
Did you try =TEXT(A1,"0000") . (You should't multi post)
To joint 2 cells would be =A1&TEXT(B1,"0000").
Please stay in one post.
Regards
John
