Columns in endnote space?

Is it possible to split the endnote space into two (or more?) columns?
If it makes a difference, I have my notes at the end of the document,
and there are no section breaks.

Thanks in advance.

It's tricky, but it can be done. You'll have to experiment to get the layout
just the way you want, however.

1. Format | Columns and select 2, making sure that the box for "Equal column
width" is checked. This will make the entire document two-column.

2. Insert a Continuous section break above the endnotes.

3. In the document portion (above the section break), go to Format | Columns
and select 1.

You won't be able to balance the endnotes, however, since there's no way to
insert a section break after the notes. I would also be a little leery of
this approach because it might make the document unstable.

Thank you, this seems to have done the trick. My goal was to get the
endnotes to fit on a single page (they had spilled over onto a second
page).

But what do you mean by "unstable"?

Just watch the document carefully for signs of corruption, a good idea
whenever you do anything that Word doesn't really intend for you to do.
