COM Exception - VBE doesn't load

Similar problems have been recently posted, but suggested solutions
haven't worked:

Using Word X SR 1, OS 10.2.4, I recently accepted a forms document
from a colleague that contained a macro. Foolishly, I did not verify
the Macro first. I also use EndNote, which makes extensive use of
Visual Basic to modify Word. Now when I open Word, I get the COM
exeption notice, I cannot use EndNote, I cannot access other macros or
load the Visual Basic Editor. I get the error saying that there is
not enough memory, or that files have been moved, etc.

Removing the Normal template and the Word (10) settings did not fix
the problem.

I also get errors on opening Excel related to missing libraries.

Norton Anti-virus for the Mac did not find anything using the 7/1/03
definitions.

Any suggestions?

BTW you should update Office to 10.1.2 or 10.2.3 and MacOS X to 10.2.6.
THere has been a lot of improvements in these updates.

Remove the Carbon Registration Database. My guess is that this file has
been corrupted and Office looses track of the location of the different
components it uses.
This file is in ~/Library/Preferences/Office (~/ stand for your user
folder).

Thanks, Corentin, that worked. Upon inspection, the Carbon
Registration Database file now included the text and binary
attachments of the last six emails received in the OS X mail
application. No clue how that happened.

Wowwwww. I'm glad it worked but if I were you I'd chek the hard drive
with a good utility (eg DiskWarrior) ASAP. That's a very bad sign...
