COM executable

We have PWA on a server with SPS also on the same server.
Each night the connection is lost between the PWA and SPS
links. IT says that they have to "RECYCLE THE COM
executable". Not being in IT, I'm not sure what they are
doing. But I am tired of submitting the request every
morning to recycle the darn thing. Why won't it stay? Can
you explain, in english, the fix so that I can communicate
the fix to these nimrods in our IT group?

You're the first person to report this behavior. It's a safe bet that this
has something to do with your server build. You can get caught in a serious
rathole trying to diagnose something like this. It's often more prudent to
re-roll the box and start over. At least this way you know that you'll be
done in X hours.

Re-roll, huh. OK, I'll ask.

OK so we re-roll. Do you know what was done wrong on the
first install so that we do it right the next time?

The possibilities are endless. The least likely possibility is that it's
directly connected to Project Server. DCOM runs as a service in the
operating system. What you're saying is that this service needs to be
restarted constantly. So what's causing this in the operating system? If you
reinstall the box and the behavior goes away, you can safely assume that
there was something funky about the box install. If the behavior reappears,
then you have to ask yourself whether it has something to do with the way
you're installing the OS, configuring the server, some strange security
policy conflict, etc. Exactly what path to follow is for you and your IT
folks to decide.
