".com" page different than ".com/default.htm" page

Greetings,

I have FrontPage 2003.

I removed a header ad on the entry page of a web site and published to a
remote server.

The result was the page as it existed prior to being changed with the
"www.website.com" address.

With the address "www.website.com/default.htm," the result was the page
prior to being changed
(also, I noticed a "www.website.com/default.html" page that was the same as
the www.website.com/default.htm" page).

Any explanations/suggestions?

When you publish, FrontPage queries the server to check for the correct file name for the "default"
page used by the server and then changes the file name.
So, if your local copy is index.htm or default.htm and the server requires default.html it will
automatically be renamed.

See which is the correct one for your server and then rename your local copy to match it and let
FrontPage update hyperlinks when prompted. Then Publish. When done open the live site on the
server and delete the incorrect / no longer needed one.
