Combine files, not masters

Is there a way (in PPT98, Mac) to put slides from different
files with different masters into one file without changing
their formatting to the master of the new file? We don't
WANT them all to look the same, nor do we want to have to
reapply color schemes for dozens and dozens of slides!

Addendum:
I notice that slides from SOME files keep their background
and foreground colors, with only the text size/style
changing. Very strange - can anyone comment?
