Combining Cells

I wish to combine two cells, want the cell to appear as Chicago Golf Club 04/15/04, where Chicago Golf Club is cell a1 and 04/14/04 is cell b1. When I use the formula a1&" "&b1 the date is shown as a number. Is there anyway it can be shown as a date? This cell will then be used to save the file, using a macro.

Again you come through. How did you learn all this about Excel. I have been totally self-taught and feel quite accomplished with Excel, but someone with your vast knowledge makes me realize how much I do NOT know

With the / seprarating the date fields, my macro to save will not work. I am assuming it is due to the format 04/30/04. How can I save with a recognizable time and date format using my macro?

Disregard my last question as I substituted a . (period) instead of / and it saved just fine and is in a recognizable format
