combining movie actions with other animations

I am trying to create a slide where an avi file runs for a while, then
pauses. while it is paused I would like to bring in other animated objects,
then resume the movie. Can anyone help?

This can be done as long as you dont want the animations in front of the video

Your custom animation pane should look like this

video > action play after prev
video > action pause with pres + delay of xx secs
animation > play with previous delay xx secs
video > action pause (not play) delay as needed
