Comcast change over

Diane Ross

Today is finally the day.

I manually made my changes. I'm downloading my first batch now. Other than
getting some old messages that I had already downloaded everything seems to
be normal.

Now, to change over all my subscription addresses. <sigh> At least we have
time.

E-mail Settings:

POP3 (Incoming Mail) Server: mail.comcast.net
SMTP (Outgoing Mail) Server: smtp.comcast.net
Your E-Mail address: e-mail (e-mail address removed)
News Groups: Netnews.Comcast.net

Be sure to change your default email address in your Address Book entry.

The message above was very helpful because with both Apple Mail and
Microsoft Entourage under attbi.com the outgoing mail server was
mail.attbi.com. Many people, including me, simply substituted
comcast.net for attbi.com with the result that sending mail would
fail. Substituting smtp for mail is essential with these applications.
However, this rule is not universal. I also have two Windows machines
running XP with Netscape 7.0 The rule on these is different.
smtp.comcast.net does not work with these machines. Instead, a simple
mail works fine. I believe Comcast, as did AT&T so I was told, run
their Windows and their Mac mail server funcions on different
machines.

Good point Raymond.
It took me 3 hours to figure out that I didn't follow the directions to the
"T".
That smtp really had me screwed up. Actually, it was my own fault.

We've just been switched over to Comcast, but it still says "AT&T Broadband
Internet" Under
"System Preferences"
"Network"
"Location"
Now that Comcast is the provider, would it be correct to select "New
Location" and type in "Comcast Broadband Internet" just to keep everything
up to date?

I've always had mine set to Automatic. Naming the location appears to be
optional. Wouldn't hurt to change it, although it's probably not necessary
