Command Buttons Inoperative...at first

I have an Access project form that loads records into a subform. Everything
loads fine in the OnLoad event, but the command buttons do not work. The
only way they will work is if you enter the form's design view and then
return to the form view...I'm confused.

I should also mention that the parent form is an unbound form.
