If you type "1000000" in a cell with no formatting, it will appear a
"1000000".
If you go to Format --> Cells --> Number (tab), and select "Number
(second choice in the list), you'll have the options to "Use 100
Separator (,)", as well as to set the number of decimal points, etc.

sorry, I meant actually in the cell, rather than typing 1000, can I type
1,000. It gets confusing when there're many numbers and many zeros. I'd
like to actually type them in. Any way?

as the result in the cell? What I am saying is that if I type
"=1,000+2,000"
the cell tells me there's an error, and that the formula must be set to
"1000+2000"
You are saying that yours will let you use the commas and it keeps them
visible in the formula afterwards? Just want to make SURE we're talking
about the same thing before I go out and ask folks to help me figure out what
the difference is between your setup and mine, because mine certainly does
not do what I just described.
