Comment balloons

When I insert a comment on a Word document, I want to see the comment
in a balloon at the margin, but even though the Reviewing Pane is NOT
checked on the Reviewing toolbar's Show drop-down menu, and Use
balloons to display changes IS checked in Word preferences, the
reviewing pane comes up every time. How do I get the balloons to
display? Occasionally it has worked properly, but I don't know why.

Hi Whatever Your Name Is:

If you work in Normal view, the Reviewing Pane is displayed.

If you work in Page Layout View, you get the balloons.

Normal View is a high-efficiency display that requires less computer power
to draw the display and thus enables you to handle documents ten times the
size without suffering slow-downs. It shows more information than Page
Layout View, but it does not waste CPU cycles on re-drawing the display with
fancy formatting.

Cheers

John,

Thank you so much! I figured it would be something easy but was
clueless. Now I can get back to my editing.
