In excel when I open a comment box,"windows 98" appears before I key i
anything.How do I change/stop this happening

You're adding a comment to a cell?

If yes, then excel will grab the user's name from
Tools|options|general tab|User Name box

If that has "Windows 98" in it, then put your real name.

If you don't want anything there, you could use a macro that Debra Dalgleish has
shared:
