Compact Access 2000 file

A 16MB Access 2000 database used on a network by 1 person is set to compact
on closing the file. But every time it closes, Access stops responding and
they get another db3.mdb or whatever in the network file list. In Win XP
task manager there are always two copies of Access 2000 running when the 16MB
database is loaded and I try to close the non responding program.

I can turn off the compact on close button but that just leads to larger &
larger files.

Any suggestions on getting compact to work?

Just a couple of ideas.

First 16 MB is not very big by Access standards.

I would try disabling the auto compact and try relying on an occasional
manual compact for now.

I would also suggest making sure that the user has full access to the
directory and does not have their rights limited by access if there is any
security set on Access.

Thanks Joseph. I modified the WinXP security setting and compact works now.
