compact database

Recently when I backup and restore file of our Access
databases, our netware server and Arcserve backup
software gives message like pack sparse file. and I
cannot restore them.

My question is when and how often I should compact
databases of our office.

If the database is used daily, then I would compact once a week. If the
database is used occasionally, then once or twice a month.
