Compact Database

In Access 97, is there a way in VBA to do a compact of the open database, so
that the space from deleted records is recovered, as can be done with the
Tools-Database Utilities' menu option? When my form's Exit button is
clicked, I would like to do this and then exit.

I'm not sure about Access 97, but in the Tools and then Options menu of
Access 2000, on the General tab, you can check a box which makes Access do a
Compact and Repair automatically on exit.

I don't see that option in Access 97, but I don't want to do it for all
databases, just for this one database and from exiting this one form from
which various extracts can be generated.

Take a look at the TSI SOON (Shut One, Open New) add-in MichKa has at his
site.

The site is http://www.trigeminal.com/, but unfortunately it appears to be
down at the moment, so I can't give you a specific URL for the add-in. If I
remember correctly, the first choice on the page is Utilities, and it's
under that.

Looks like it is back up, and he also has a "Compactor" in the same list as
TSI SOON, which might be worth a look. Well, _anything_ of michka's is
"worth a look", but this might be just what the original poster needs.
