Compact on Close Error

On one machine in our office, when closing an mdb, a new,
compacted mdb is produed, but an error message appears
stating that Access is unable to delete the original.

Suggestions?

Does your person with that computer have DELETE priveleges for the folder
that the Access database is in? They need to have READ/WRITE/DELETE
priveleges because the ldb (locking) file has to be deleted as the database
closes or it appears to Access that the database is still open and it can't
delete a file in use.

Yes. They are running with an Admin account.

Yup.

If the database is in a network folder, then running as Admin isn't enough.
The folder permissions need to be there as well. Can you confirm that they
do have those permissions on the network folder? Just because they have
full-permissions on the computer in question doesn't mean that they have the
network permissions.

Both front-end and back-end are on that user's Desktop
(local).

Which operating system? Vista or XP, or something else?

Is it completely disconnected from the back end - if the .ldb file still
exists at the point you tell it to delete, windows will prevent the
corresponding .mdb file from being deleted (as far as I remember)

More info: After opening the mdb, if Access is closed, the
error message occurs. But if the mdb is closed and allowed
time to compact before closing Access, then neither one
seems to produce the error message.

This user almost never has the db window open when using the
mdb, but rather works exclusively in forms.
