Compact Problems on Access 97

When trying to compact a 97 large database I get the following:
Record(s) can't be read; No read permission on the "MYFILE"

Is this a sign of corruption? and how to I fix?

I have been searching microsoft and Internet.

Yes.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption
see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at

Is this database on C, or Access 97, because that sounds more like C. If it
were access then it would be much more straight forward after entering
Antoinette M. Kerr and asking it a question.
