compacting creates another database

There is an Access 2003 Database which sits on a network share. The
database is set to Compact on Close. When a particular user closes the
database, it creates another database such as db1. It is currently up to
db87.mdb. I understand that Access creates a temp db and then is suppose to
delete the temp db. In this case, it is not deleting the temp db.

Strange, when it another user opens it up on another machine and closes the
database, it does not create another database.
Both users have the same NTFS permissions to the database.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance,

I would double check that both users have the same permissions. Make sure
that they have delete which will remove the old copy.

Other than that the user with a problem might have something wrong with
their install of Office or Access.

Another possibility is that the user is getting impatient and just pulling
the plug on their computer.

I never enable Compact on Close. A well designed database seldom needs to be
compacted and when it does, it's best to do manually, after a full backup, in
case something goes wrong.
