I keep getting a msg saying file is already in use whenever I try to compact

I created the database and have full access and permissions. I only get this
problem when I try to compact and repair. I really need to reduce the size
before I copy it to the public server.
There is no other database with the same name in that directory.
Do you have any other ideas what it might be? I have shut down the computer
but still get the same problem.

I am now also getting a message saying the jet database engine stopped the
process because you or another user are attempting to change the same data at
the same time.
I only get this when I try to enter design view or save changes to certain
queries, the rest are all fine. There is noone else using the database and I
have full permissions for all of the queries as I am the owner.
It has only just started doing this. I do have other versions of the
database saved in different directories that have other users but noone has
access to the design of the database.

I sometimes get that message when I open a db by double-clicking it in
Explorer. If I close it, open Access from it's own shortcut, and then open
the db, the compact and repair succeeds. Never made sense to me but it's one
of those that's easier to workaround than pursue.
