compatability pack for office 2007 applications

Hi, I've installed the 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel,
and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats' and the highly recommended updates. But
still can't seem to open Powerpoint 2007 file. Any clue if I've missed out
any step? Or what should I do to resolve this problem?

The error message is 'PowerPoint can't read the outline from <file route>/ No
text converter is installed for this file type.'

So far I've only tried to open PowerPoint 2007, yet have the opportunity to
try on Word and Excel.

The compatibility pack lets you save in the new formats, as well. So, you
should be able to create testing opportunities by saving documents in .docx
and .xlsx format. I would also try saving in .pptx format, to see if you can
read a "new" format document you create.

I wonder if the file is corrupted. I don't have Powerpoint 2003 anymore...
but, when you choose File - Open, is there an Open and Repair option? Does
that work for the troublesome document?

Have re-saved my lectuere's .pptx file and can now open. But for the
troublesome .ppt, it's file extension doesn't have 'x' so I suppose it's not
PowerPoint 2007. It also doesn't have the 'Open and repair' option and it
only gave me the error message. With the re-saved version as .pptx I need not
be bothered with the can't-be-opened file.

Just curious: with the error message as provided below, can it be
interpreted that the file is corrupted?

When I see an error message like that, I assume that one of two things must
be true:

1. The file is NOT a PowerPoint file, or...

2. It is corrupted.

If the extenstion is .ppt, and PowerPoint can't digest it, the error message
would suggest to me that it's corrupted... unless there's another program
out there that's tagging files with a .ppt extension.
