Compatibility of Office Mac Word Files with Word for PC

My wife created a document with tables in Word for Mac (2004
Standard edition) then saved it on a disk and tried to pull it up in Word
on a PC (Word 2000 9.0). Only the first page of the document will come
up. We have tried it several times to no avail. Any suggestions?
