I created a word document (.docx) using Office 2007 RTM on November 12, 2006.
I am now trying to open that document in Office 2003 on my laptop and I
don't have access to the Office 2007 installation.
When I tried to open it, Word prompted me to download the Compatibility
Pack, which I did. When I tried again to open the document, Word 2003 said
the compatibility pack would only open pre-release documents and would I like
to check for an update. I did. Same result.
I have read about this same scenario right around RTM time but the
indication was it should soon be fixed. This is well over 6 weeks later and
still no compatibility pack that will open a production document? Why even
offer the download?
