Compatibility Pack Problems

I recently noticed that after i had installed XPSP3, and came to open a .docx
in office 2003, that the compatibility pack is no longer functional in word.



I had no problems prior to SP3 and it has only affected word i can still
open .xlsx



the error message that i'm receiving is;



There was an error opening the file.



I have uninstalled and reinstalled the compatibility pack and my system is
fully upto date.



Is this a known problem? if so how do i resolve it please.
