Compatibility Pack

I am using Office 2007 and my office they are using an older version of
office.

Now they have downloaded the compatibility pack and when they open my files
it tells them READ ONLY.

My question is: Can they save the file in plain old DOC format and then use
the file as they like?

Please don't post independent copies of the same message to multiple
newsgroups. If you must post to multiple groups, post a single copy
