Compatibility with Leopard?

I just purchased a new iMac with Leopard pre-installed. I loaded my Office:Mac X, but Word keeps blowing up. Am I doing something wrong or is my version not compatible with OS 10.5?

First download the standalone updater for Leopard 10.5.1:

Are you saying you have Office X? Do you know this is end of life software
and is no longer being supported? You might meet the requirements for a
free upgrade to Office 2008. At least, be sure to upgrade to 10.1.9.
