Compatibilty between Office 2007-PC and Office 04-Mac

I have a student using Microsoft Office 04 for Mac. I use a PC and create
assignments using Office 2007. I save all of my docs in compatibilty mode to
allow other versions to view them. The student is unable to view my
documents. Is there another way I should be saving these docs or is there a
way the student can view my docs without having to upgrade his version of
Office?

Hi Beth;

It sounds as though the student's installation of Office 2004 may not be
fully updated (11.5.6) and/or perhaps your installation of Office 2007 lacks
updates, but the additional unanswered questions are:

How are the files getting to the student?

Exactly what happens when s/he *attempts* to open the files?

What specific file format are you saving in?
[To clarify... "Compatibility Mode" is the mode in which the Word 2007/2008
programs operate when faced with a file saved in something other than the
OXML (.docx) format, it isn't a file format in and of itself. Do you
actually mean that you're saving in Word 97-2003 (.doc) format?]

Mac Office 2004 compatibility with MS Office 2007. I had a similar problem. There is an XML file converter which your student can download. In MS Office for Mac he should click Help which will take him through to the specific MS web-site where the file can be downloaded. It is a small file and I have found it works adequately to read files created in all later editions of MS Office programs.
