Compatible programs

Various friends sent me invitations, announcements, etc in
a Publisher format. I don't currently have this loaded on
my computer. I have MS Word, Works, Front Page, PageMaker,
and some others. Which program would be best for opening
and viewing a *.pub file? Thanks.

None of the above. You need Publisher to view a Publisher file.

I'd suggest you ask your friends to (1) send you files in a format you can
read or (2) chip in and buy you Publisher. My personal choice would be (2)
but then again, maybe you'll learn that your *friends* don't really want you
to be able the invitations. They are trying to be subtle. ;-)

IIRC, Some versions of PageMaker can open Publisher files from some versions
of Publisher.
If you don't want to get Publisher, you might try PageMaker.
Failing that, if the details were stored in a text frame in the file, you
could try opening the file in Word using the "Recover text from any file"
option.
