Compile error in hidden module:Autoexec

In Office 2003, I am receiving the following error message
when I start Word or Excel:
"Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec"

I looked elsewhere on this list and found the refernece to
the MVP article "Problems opening Word." I tried all of
the proposed solutions in item 4, to no avail.

This error occurs one day after I installed Office 2003
Service Pack 1. After that installation, I also started
getting error messages complaining of a conflict with
Adobe Acrobat 5.0. I uninstalled Acrobat 5.0 and installed
in its place Adobe Reader 6.0.2.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, John G. If you are running Norton/Symantec Antivirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it by clicking on Start | Programs | Norton |
Options | Miscellaneous | uncheck the "Enable Office Plugin" box.

Hi Garfield,

Thanks for your response. I do have Norton Antivirus, and
I did disable the Office Plugin. But the problem persists.

All best,
John
