compile error

P

Paul Plank

When I open a particualr word document, 4 windows open and a
message "compile error: ambiguos document-open" comes up. I can
close these windows and everything seems fine, but I don't know why
they pop-up.

Also other documents that have been saved, when I reopen them, they
have multiple colour shapes such as traingles all over them, which I
also need to delete one-by-one.

Does anyone know what is going on with this?

Well, you've clearly got some poorly-written macros in the document, the
template it is attached to, or a global template.

Since when they do work they do things you didn't want to happen, I'd guess
'virus' or disgruntled employee.

As a start, try opening the Visual Basic editor (Alt + F11) and looking to
see which documents and templates have macros in them. (You won't be able to
open global templates other than Normal.dot, so if that's the culprit you'll
need to open them directly from your Word startup folder.)
