% complete vs. % complete work

Susana

Hi
I have a problem with my project. When I see the fields of % complete and %
complete work, sometimes they are different. I thought that the reason of
that was the square at calculete in options wasn't activated (to update the
state of tasks it updates the state of the resource).
Why is that? please, help me with this problem.
thanks
Susana

Percent Complete is based on Duration. Percent Work Complete is based on Work.

There are any number of explanations for why these would be different,
primarily around the Contour of the hours on the task(s).

For example, if you have a 3day (duration) task with one resource for
12hours (work), but the hours are allocated by day as:
- Day 1: 6hours
- Day 2: 4hours
- Day 3: 2hours

Then at the end of day 2:
- Percent Complete is 67% (two days complete out of three days scheduled
duration)
- Percent Work Complete is 83% (10hours complete out of 12hours planned work).

Consider the following scenario:

1. You assign Mickey Cobb at 50% Units and 40 hours of Work on a Fixed
Duration task with a 10-day Duration. Microsoft Project schedules the work
in a flat pattern of 4 hours per day over the 10 day life of the task.

2. Mickey Cobb submits 6 hours of Actual Work each day during the first
five days of work of the task (30 hours total for the week).

3. At the end of the first week, % Work Complete = 75% (30 hours out of 40)
and the % Complete = 50% (5 days out of 10).

If you are using the Actual hours worked per day or per week tracking option
in Project Server, then it is very likely that you will see different % Work
Complete and % Complete values for each task. Hope this helps.
