Completed a task in error and want to revert back to Work in progress

By accident I checked a task as complete and it now shows as crossed out in the tasks completed. So I opened the task and changed it to "not started" but it still shows as crossed out text. The biggest problem is that I use the task pane in the mail screen and this item doesn't even show at all.
How do I reverse this action?
