compress image - delete cropped area

I have inserted an image / graphic via cliboard PASTE SPECIAL as windows
metafile.
then I cropped using the tool from picture toolbar.
when deleting the cropped area using the compress tool from picture
toolbar>compress > delete cropped area the image uncrops and no crope area is
deleted - WHY.
inserting a JPEG via cliboard PASTE SPECIAL as file does not rise this
problem.
What is special about windows metafiles that deleting cropped area is not
possible ??

Hi Tom,

You didn't mention the application or version
you're working with.

Is this in Word or Powerpoint?

Was the graphic a WMF when you placed it on
the clipboard?

and with WMF if it is formatted as inline with text,
then cropped then hit by Format=>Picture=>[Compress] and
remove the cropped area it will work, but
until the 'undo' stack in Word is cleared 'undo'
is still possible.

There is an issue with PNG graphics being
compressed/crop-deleted in Word 2003 if
the graphic is not formatted as 'in-line with text'
If you have the graphic set to 'in front of text'
(i.e. it's in a different 'layer' within Word
the same procedure may not only not delete the
cropped area, it may restore the original picture.

Hello Bob,

WORD 2003, powerpoint 2003, makes no difference reagrding delete cropped area
Was the graphic a WMF when you placed it on

I do not Know, origin from S-Plus, but could also be a WMF or EMF or PNG
file inserted directly via picture > insert file
by the way WHAT IS TH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WMF ANF ENHANCED WMF ??
and with WMF if it is formatted as inline with text,
then cropped then hit by Format=>Picture=>[Compress] and
remove the cropped area it will work,

No - even changing TEXTWRAPPING to SQUARE did have no influence here !!!

but

inserting the graphic as JPEG (which is of course not acceptable for the
grafic quality !!) does allow cropping when TEXT WRAPPING mode is SQUARE !
Afterwards TEXT WRAPPING can be set back to INLINE.
until the 'undo' stack in Word is cleared 'undo'
is still possible.

I tried: If the PNG grafic was IN lINE delete corped area did not work !

RESUME
I did not find yet a way to delete cropped areas using COMPRESS & DELETE
CROPPED AREA FROM PICTURE pasted as WMF or EMF !
thanks for any sucessful hlp.
