compressing doc files

Does anybody know how to compress a doc file to the minimum size on
Microsoft word?. I compressed all pictures to web resolution
(96dpi)and discarted cropped areas, but still not enough.
Nevertheless, I want final format being .doc.
What can I do?

You don't mention which version you're using, but does it support
"Fast Saves"? If so, it's saving your document as a succession of
changes-on-changes-on-changes...

Disable this option before saving the document and Word will boil all
those changes down to the actual, finished document.
