Compressing Photos in PowerPoint 2007

I created a Powerpoint slideshow back in 2004 with some 108 slides.
Most of the slides had photos. I tried to cut down on the size of
each of the photos then as much as possible. I am not happy with the
quality of the slideshow when projecting it onto a wall and and am
redoing it. The original slideshow was 27.7mbs. I then had only
256mb of ram. I now have 2gb. I have seen that under PowerPoint
2007 there is an option to compress all photos to Email (96 dpi). If
I am going to be using a projector will the projected images loose
their quality? Can somebody suggest how to get the best quality for
the best economy please?

In short you need to aim for the number of PIXELS and not the DPI.

Chances are the projector has this many pixels
1024x768

That's 1024 pixels (or dots) across
and 768 pixels tall.

So you need to make your pictures the same amount of pixels.
