Compressing pictures not working

Is there an issue with compressing inserted pictures?

I notice Access101 has a query outstanding from 1st May, in that after
compressing pictures the file size is not reduced.

I also have a friend where this is happening, but on my PC it works fine.

In addition to the first item, I have just established that the Word 2003
file was compressed on a Windows Vista PC.

Any clues?
