Computer freezes when I open a Word Document

I use Microsoft Office 2003. Sometimes when I open a
previously created word document, my computer freezes: my
screen freezes, even in the middle of my scroling, my
keyboard does not work at all (can't even set the "num
lock" or "Caps lock"). I can't even shut down my
computer by pushing the power button. The only thing I
can do is to diconnect the power to my PC, connect the
power supply again, and then boot up my computer. I
usually have to fiddle with the system restore program to
get it to snap out of it.

Any advise?
