Computer has Office 2007 along with some Office 1997 applications

My dad has Office 2007 installed on his computer and I found that there is
Word, Excel and Access 1997 still on the Start - All Programs list. The
applications still start but I am afraid it will corrupt his 2007 version. I
want to remove the programs, but they are not listed in the Add/Remove
option.

In Windows Explorer, this old version of Office appears to be inbedded with
Office 2007 files. I don't want to compromise the Office 2007 program but I
need to remove these old programs.

How can I easily remove this old version of Office and not just remove the
icons?

When any version of Office, from Office 2002 onwards is installed using
install defaults it is installed to a version specific folder, in the case
of 2007; Microsoft Office\Office 12
So its hard to imagine that any 97 files would be in this folder
Do a search for winword.exe, what does it return (Paths & versions of files
found)?

Thanks DL, you've been very helpful for me before - I tried the search for
winword.exe in the Windows Explorer and the the complete search came up with
"There are no results to display".

When I put the cursor over Word and/or Excel 97 in the Start - All Programs
menu, the path that comes up is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office.
When I look at that path in Windows Explorer, and open (just too look at,
nothing else) up some of the levels ("directories?" - I'm not remembering the
old dos terms) I am seeing icons of both the old Office and the new 2007
styles all mixed in together. I also saw Office 12 in that same directory,
under Program Files\Microsoft Office.

Everything so far is working okay, I am concerned about opening the '97
Word/Excel in the Start - All Programs menu and screwing something up. Maybe
if I would just delete the icons from Start - All Programs menu so the old
version cannot be opened and leave everything else alone?

If Office 2007 is running OK, then by deleting any Office 97 shortcuts you
should be OK
I believe there is an MS kb article on manual removal of Office 97, or
possibly a tool to remove Office 97, but you may have to repair the Office
2007 installation if you run any such tool, using the Office 2007 dvd/cd

Well... Thank you to both of you. I am thinking of deleting the shortcuts
but will seriously think about my options first - you've been very helpful -
thanks again!
