Computer only recognizes MS Office Document Image Writer?

I am having a problem with Document Image Writer. I have an XP Operating
System When I try to print a document or an image I find Microsoft Document
Image Writer is the only loaede printer. I have reloaded from my HP CD but it
is not found or recognized. I want to print with the hp psc 2175 as I used to
do. How can I get the hp as the default printer?

You need to set it as your default.

START, Printers & Faxes
Now right-click on your HP printer and select "Set as default Printer".

If your printer is not on the list then you need to add a new printer by
clicking on the left side !Add a printer"

Then follow the on screen instructions.

Thanks for the response hth.
My printer is not listed (none are now listed) I have followed the 'Add a
printer' route several times and have tried to install from the CD and from
the HP site, however none willl complete the process usually stating
something to the effect that it can't detect the printer or find the software
or an error occured during the download process. Also Norton Systems virus
scan reports no problems.
