Concatenate fields need special formatting?

Have concatenated several times in the past but every so often the cell will
not show it's value. It just shows the formula,
=CONCATENATE(D2,",",E2)


I remember once changing the format of columns D & E to get it to show, but
would like to know what it really needs to take all the time so when I
gather the data I start off right. Can someone tell me?

Hi
check that the cell is not formated as 'Text'. change the format to
'General' and re-enter the formula
