Conditional format - max

i wish to highlight the cell at largest value in some cells (A1, A3, A5...)
in A column

i know how to do it if they are all the cells in A column
=A1=max($a:$a)

how can i do selectively if they are just A1, A3, A5...?

Secondly, the value of A1, A3, A5... are less than 10, other values in the
column are larger than 10.

Can i make use "countif" to do above?

If it is always the every other cell starting in A1 you can use

=SUMPRODUCT(MAX(IF(ISNUMBER($A$1:$A$10)*(MOD(ROW($A$1:$A$10),2)=1),($A$1:$A$10))))


replace A1:A10 with the range in question, note also that you can't have any
numbers equaling the max value in A2, A4 and so on

I don't understand your 2nd question

This would be enough since you don't need to array enter formulas

A1=MAX(IF(ISNUMBER($A$1:$A$10)*(MOD(ROW($A$1:$A$10),2)=1),($A$1:$A$10)))
