conditional formatting...help required

I have a cell M10 where they type in yes or no
If they answer yes then I would like the number 50 to appear in cell M13
If they answer no then 0 appears in cell M13

Can this be easily done? I tried with cond. formatting but think it may be a
bit more complicated (for me anyway)

=IF(M10="yes",50,0)

or try
=50*(M10="yes")

I'm not sure you want to do conditional formatting. Try putting this
formula in m13:
=if(m10="Yes",50,0)
