Conditional Mail Merge won't suppress blank lines

Hi,

I really hope this will be an easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing, as I have been losing sleep over something that should be so simple.

I am creating a Labels document, which has varying information from an Excel spreadsheet. In my spreadsheet, if they are a member of the "Ram Pride" club, they have a 1 in that column, if not, it is blank. Same thing for the Honor Society, Honor Roll.. etc. columns. Everything merges correctly, and I get the desired result with the exception of it will not suppress the blank lines... I used the Mail Merge Manager and the IF.. THEN.. ELSE Option on the merge fields. There is a paragraph mark at the end of each line

This is what my formatting looks like...

{NEXT][MERGEFIELD GRADE} {MERGEFIELD LAST_NAME}, {MERGEFIELD FIRST_NAME}
{ IF {MERGEFIELD RAM_PRIDE } = 1 "Ram Pride" ""}
{ IF (MERGEFIELD STRAIGHT_A } = 1 "Straight A's" ""}
{ IF (MERGEFIELD HONOR_SOCIETY } = 1 "Honor Society" ""}
{ IF (MERGEFIELD HONOR ROLL } = 1 "Honor Roll" ""}

This is what I get with what I currently have for a student who is a memberof only the Ram Pride and the Honor Rolls, hence there is a "1" in those columns in my spreadsheet.

8 ALBRITTON, THOMAS
Ram Pride

Honor Roll

I would like it to look like this

8 ALBRITTON, THOMAS
Ram Pride
Honor Roll

Any help would most appreciated!!!

Hi,
I get the desired result with the exception of
it will not suppress the blank lines...

You mean suppress blank *paragraphs*, not just lines (although Word Help
says "lines"). By default Word suppresses each blank paragraph that results
from an empty mail merge field.

But:
“Blank line is not suppressed in a conditional mail mergeâ€
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264892

Therefore you have to include the paragraph mark within the IF field instead
of pressing Enter beside the field.

Thanks Lisa,

I will try that! I sure hope that works, it has been driving me crazy.
