I have reached a bit of a fork in the road regarding the configuration of
Project Server 2007 which is as follows:
We want to use Project Server for timesheeting of both Project work, and
non-Project work, utilising the new timesheet part of the system. However
for invoicing purposes, we also need our project managers to approve the
time spent on activities.
From what I can work out, the timesheet cannot be approved by the project
manager for the activities which are related to their project - only the
timesheet approver (or series of) can approve them. (We also need the
actuals back in the project plan as well)
Which takes me back to using the my Tasks as the way of recording actual
work, so that the project manager does the approval.
But - if you use the My tasks, then you are unable to register hours for the
non-project work, unless they are created as Project Plans (as in 2003). So
you are left registering time in both the timesheet for non-project work,
and also in my tasks for the project assignements.
You might say that your resources should enter project and non-proejct work
in the timesheet and then go to my tasks and import the project actuals
using the "import timesheet" button for their activities, but I feel that
this will be very difficult to enforce/remind users to do.
Does anyone have any recommendations or solutions to this challenge?
thanks,
David.
